Sister Clubs

Rotary Club of Taksin Dhonburi – Bangkok, Thailand (District 3350)

The relationship with Rotary Club of Taksin Dhonburi went back 27 years ago when Past President David See, then the Director of International Service was tasked to go outside of Singapore to find sister clubs. Through the help of Rotary Club of Bangkok South, PP David See got hold of the President of Taksin Dhonburi who happened to be in the same trade and the two struck the cord instantly and with that, Rotary Club of Singapore North took on Rotary Club of Taksin Dhonburi as its sister club. Every year, delegates from Rotary Club of Singapore North travel from Singapore to Bangkok to support the club in community service projects and enjoy the hospitality and great fellowship from the fellow Thai Rotarians.

The sisterhood idea started when PP Lum Teng Wai met up with some of the club members in Hong Kong. There were similarities in histories between the 2 clubs (RCSN formed in August 1982 and HKNE in Sept 1983) and the size of the clubs (RCN had about 28 members and HKNE 36 members at time of signing), the clubs decided to be sister clubs in early 1987. Eventually, the sister-club agreement was signed on 04 July 1987 in Singapore by our then President Goh Kim Seng and HKNE President Graham Wong.

Members of Rotary Club of Singapore North travel to Hong Kong for Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northeast’s anniversary each year. It’s often a grand affair with exquisite items up for auctions to raise funds for its community service projects. Over the years, both clubs have enjoyed great relationships and fellowships with members forging close ties with one another. PP Robin Sng was previously from Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northeast and he transferred his membership to Rotary Club of Singapore North upon his return to Singapore many years ago.
